Wat is die pulserende en zoemende massa daarboven, hoog daarboven in de kerk? Een struik, een zee-egel, een zwerm bijen? Het is een veelvoud, een schare, een zwevende verstrengeling van lichamen en touwen. Ze houden elkaar vast en verknopen ledematen, handen, oksels, tenen en polsen. Zachtjes worstelend zoeken ze steun en geven ze rust.
Deeltjes staan in verbinding met andere deeltjes, lichamen zijn verstrengeld met andere lichamen en planeten dansen in harmonie met andere planeten. De zwaartekracht geeft ons houvast en houdt alles tegelijkertijd in beweging, om zo leven te blazen in onze cosmos.
Unfolding Multitude is een co-creatie van beeldend kunstenaar Isabel Cordeiro, verticaal danscollectief Ropes Aligned en geluidskunstenaar Gemma Luz Bosch waarin beeldende kunst, luchtdans en keramische klanken samenkomen en de zwaartekracht wordt getart.
Posthoornkerk
Zoals architect Pierre Cuypers het zelf zei: “een toren moet hoog zijn, een lage toren is een onding”. En dat principe heeft hij bij de Posthoornkerk goed toegepast. Met haar drie ranke torens is de kerk een absolute blikvanger in de oude binnenstad. Gelegen achter een meer dan honderd jaar oud hekwerk, is de Posthoornkerk het eerste Amsterdamse gebouw van Cuypers, die later ook het Centraal Station, de Vondelkerk en het Rijksmuseum zou ontwerpen. Gebaseerd op de ideale Middeleeuwse stad, wilde hij de kerk een prominente rol geven in de samenleving. De enorme hoogte, de vele kleuren baksteen en het spel van lichtdeeltjes dat door de glas-in-loodramen naar binnen valt geven deze neogotische kerk een betoverende uitstraling.

What’s that mass throbbing and humming, high up in the air of the big church? An organism of some sort? A shrub, a sea urchin, a swarm of bees? A multitude. A suspended entanglement of bodies and ropes. They hold each other, knotting limbs and hands and heads and armpits and toes and wrists. Softly grappling, they seek support and offer rest to each other.
Particles are connected to other particles, bodies intertwined with other bodies, and planets dance in harmony with other planets. The gravity gives us support and keeps everything moving at the same time, thus breathing life into our cosmos.
Unfolding Multitude is a WhyNot produced co-creation by vertical dance collective Ropes Aligned, visual artist Isabel Cordeiro and sound artist Gemma Luz Bosch in which visual art, vertical dance and ceramic sounds come together and gravity is being defied.
Posthoornkerk
As architect Pierre Cuypers himself said: “a tower must be tall, a low tower is an abomination”. And he applied that principle well at the Posthoornkerk. With its three slender towers, the church is an absolute eye-catcher in the old city center. Located behind a more than hundred-year-old fence, the Posthoornkerk is Cuypers' very first building in Amsterdam, who later also designed the Central Station, the Vondelkerk, and the Rijksmuseum. Based on his ideal of the ‘Medieval city’, he wanted to give the church a prominent role in society. The immense height, the many colors of bricks, and the play of light particles that fall through the stained-glass windows give this neo-Gothic church an enchanting appearance.
