Studio ITE is gevestigd op het WG-terrein, in één van de gebouwen van het voormalige Wilhelmina Gasthuis. Dit complex stamt al uit 1634 toen het eerste gebouw werd opgericht als pesthuis buiten de stad. In 1734 kwam er een tweede gebouw bij, een ‘dolhuys’ voor krankzinnigenzorg en werd de naam ‘Buitengasthuis’. Vanaf 1870 werd het gasthuis langzamerhand opgenomen in de stad en werden er steeds meer paviljoens bijgebouwd om een groter ziekenhuis te creëren: het Wilhelmina Gasthuis. Studio ITE bevindt zich in het vormalige paviljoen #16. In 1983 verhuisde het ziekenhuis naar het huidige AMC, waarna de paviljoens een nieuwe functie kregen als woningen, bedrijfsruimtes en ateliers. In het voormalige pathologisch anatomisch laboratorium was vanaf de jaren ’90 Danswerkplaats Amsterdam gevestigd, later Dansmakers. Zij richtten in 2005 Studio ITE in als extra repetitieruimte en montageplek voor hun makers. Dansmakers is opgegaan in ICK Amsterdam, en Studio ITE wordt nu gebruikt als de danswerkplaats van ICK Artist Space.
Courtney May Robertson presenteert een unplugged versie van haar voorstelling the pleasure of stepping off a horse when it’s moving at full speed. Een ruiter die een wild paard temt: deze metafoor voor zelfbeheersing fascineert Courtney. In dat beeld ziet de ze strijd tussen het omarmen van primitieve verlangens en het reguleren van gedrag in overeenstemming met de maatschappelijke druk om je aan te passen. Door een combinatie van poëzie, dans en zang reist ze door landschappen van persoonlijke verlangens, herinneringen en angsten. De ruimte werkt bijna als een tijdcapsule; intieme homevideo's worden gecombineerd met gevonden beelden van onder meer het temmen van paarden en door de mens veroorzaakte rampen. Een poging om de, soms rommelige, tegenstellingen te omarmen die een veelzijdig mens vormen.
Courtney May Robertson (Schotland, 1992) is een Rotterdamse performer en maker. Na haar afstuderen aan de Scottish School of Contemporary Dance in 2013 sloot ze zich aan bij Club Guy & Roni's Poetic Disasters Club. Sindsdien werkte ze onder meer samen met Jan Martens, Connor Schumacher en Florentina Holzinger. Naast haar werk als performer begon Courtney in 2015 met het maken van haar eigen werk. Tussen 2015 - 2019 waren haar kleinschalige en zelf geproduceerde optredens te zien op verschillende undergroundpodia door heel Nederland, zoals The Performance Bar en Hoboken. De recentere projecten van Courtney werden ondersteund door Dansateliers, ICK Artist Space en Dans Brabant. In 2020 ontving ze De Troffel Prijs - de aanmoedigingsprijs van Festival Cement voor jonge makers - voor haar nieuwste werk THE WOMAN DESTROYED dat in 2022 in première gaat. Courtneys werk begint altijd met het lichaam, maar omvat verschillende disciplines waaronder video, generatieve kunst en schrijven.

From 1870 onwards the 'gasthuis' was gradually incorporated into the city and more and more pavilions were built to create a larger hospital: the Wilhelmina Gasthuis. Studio ITE is located in the former pavilion #16. In 1983 the hospital moved to the current AMC, after which the pavilions were repurposed as residences, business spaces and studios. In the 1990s, Danswerkplaats Amsterdam, later Dansmakers, was based in the former pathological anatomical laboratory. In 2005 they set up Studio ITE as an extra rehearsal space for their makers. Dansmakers has merged into ICK Amsterdam, and Studio ITE is now used as a studio for the ICK Artist Space.
Courtney May Robertson will be presenting an unplugged version of her solo the pleasure of stepping off a horse when it’s moving at full speed. As a starting point, Courtney takes a metaphor for self-control; a rider taming a wild horse. She looks at the struggle between embracing one’s primitive desires, and regulating behaviour in accordance with societal pressures. Through a combination of poetry, dance, and song, she travels across landscapes of personal desires, memories, and fears. The space almost acts like a time capsule; intimate home videos are spliced with found footage of horse taming tactics and man-made disasters, amongst other imagery. An attempt to embrace the, sometimes messy, contradictions that make up a multifaceted human.
Courtney May Robertson (Scotland, 1992) is a performer and maker based in Rotterdam. Upon graduating from The Scottish School of Contemporary Dance in 2013, she joined Club Guy & Roni’s Poetic Disasters Club. She has since worked with Jan Martens, Connor Schumacher and Florentina Holzinger, amongst others. Alongside working as a performer, Courtney began creating her own work in 2015. Between 2015 - 2019 her small-scale, DIY and self-produced performances were shown at various underground venues across the Netherlands such as The Performance Bar and Hoboken. Courtney’s recent projects have been supported by Dansateliers, ICK Artist Space and Dans Brabant. In 2020 she was awarded De Troffel Prijs - Festival Cement's incentive prize for young makers - for her latest work THE WOMAN DESTROYED which will premiere in 2022. Courtney's work always starts with the body, but spans various disciplines including video, generative art and writing.
