Het lichaam strijdt om zichzelf te overstijgen. In SENESCENCE van Korzo-huismaker Camiel Corneille worstelt een man tegelijkertijd met groei én aftakeling. Hij kan zijn eigen transformatie niet accepteren. Is vergankelijkheid echt onvermijdelijk?
In een combinatie van virtuoze lichaamsbeheersing en een kinetische installatie legt Camiel de dualiteit van zijn menselijkheid bloot: de inspanning om te blijven presteren en de onvermijdelijke aftakeling die daarmee gepaard gaat.
SENESCENCE is de wetenschappelijke term voor celveroudering en een poging van Camiel Corneille om zijn vergankelijkheid tegen te gaan en een antwoord te vinden op het maakbaarheidsideaal van de samenleving. Want ook artiesten worden ouder en dat heeft een impact als je werkt met lichaam.
De Sloot
In mei 2022 openden theatercollectief De Warme Winkel en BOG. de eerste Amsterdamse theaterbroedplaats achter station Amsterdam Sloterdijk: De Sloot. Een werkplaats voor theatermakers, een volwaardige vlakke vloer theaterzaal en een kleinere zaal, meerdere grote repetitieruimtes en werkateliers en een groot café/restaurant. Sindsdien zijn ze uitgegroeid tot een creatieve werkomgeving waar je struikelt over jonge theatermakers en gevestigde orde, en hebben ze een café met betaalbare lunch en naar eigen zeggen de beste koffie van Amsterdam!

Camiel lays out the duality of humankind in a combination of virtuouse physicality and a kinetic installation: the effort it takes to perform and the inevitable decay that comes with it.
SENESCENCE is the scientific term for cellular aging and is Camiel’s attempt to battle his transcience and to find question the ideal of social engineering. Artists also get older and the impact is even bigger when your body is a large part of your artistic work.

In May 2022, theater collectives De Warme Winkel and BOG. opened the first Amsterdam theater hub behind Amsterdam Sloterdijk station: De Sloot. A workshop for theater creators, featuring a fully equipped flat-floor theater hall, a smaller venue, several large rehearsal spaces and workshops, and a spacious café/restaurant. Since then, they’ve evolved into a creative workspace bustling with young theater creators and established artists. There’s a café offering affordable lunches, serving the finest coffee in Amsterdam!
