Monolith 1: the black piece is een hypnotiserende paaldanstrip. De paal wordt een heilig object, een poort naar een andere wereld waar eeuwenoude wijsheid schuilt, een vergeten wijsheid die zich in het lichaam verbergt. Sofie & Mári wekken de energie van dit metaalachtige middel weer tot leven en zien de paal als een ritueel object dat een spirituele ervaring opwekt, terwijl ze tegelijkertijd spelen met de clichés van paaldansen en de verwachtingen van het publiek. Door de interactie tussen de danser en de paal, ondersteund door helder wit licht en futuristische elektronische geluiden, wordt het publiek achtergelaten in een hybride sfeer tussen nu en morgen.
Na hun succesvolle eerste samenwerking voor A Pole Tragedy, besloten performer Sofie Kramer en geluidskunstenaar Mári Mákó om opnieuw samen te werken. Dit keer onderzochten ze dat de mogelijkheden van het paaldansinstrument en verkenden de technische innovatie en zintuiglijke ervaring door middel van geluid en beweging. Het resultaat is een tweeluik genaamd Monolith, bestaande uit Monolith 1: the black piece en Monolith 2: the white piece.

In 2022 opende achter station Amsterdam Sloterdijk Theaterbroedplaats De Sloot: een unieke werkplek voor theatermakers met studio’s, repetitieruimtes, twee theaterzalen en een café/restaurant. Nergens anders werken zoveel theatergroepen samen op één plek. In de meest industriële studio van het terrein werkt Touki Delphine, een Amsterdams collectief van muzikanten, performers en beeldend kunstenaars. Met hun monumentale licht- en geluidsinstallaties van gerecycled materiaal creëren zij poëtische ontmoetingen tussen mens en machine.
Monolith 1: the black piece is a hypnotic pole dancing trip. The pole becomes a sacred object, a gate to a different world where ancient wisdom lies, a forgotten wisdom that hides inside the body. Sofie & Marí resurrect the energy of this metallic agent, seeing the pole as a ritualist object that provokes a spiritual experience, while at the same time playing with the cliches of pole dancing and the expectations of the audience. Through interaction between the dancer and the pole, supported by bright white light and futuristic electronic sounds, the audience is left with a hybrid atmosphere between now and tomorrow.
After their successful first collaboration for A Pole Tragedy, performer Sofie Kramer and sound artist Mári Mákó reunited to further develop the possibilities of a pole-dancing instrument, exploring technical innovation and sensory experience through the means of sound and movement. They created a double bill called Monolith, consisting of Monolith 1: the black piece and Monolith 2: the white piece.

In 2022, Theater Broedplaats De Sloot opened just behind Amsterdam Sloterdijk station: a unique workplace for theatre makers, featuring studios, rehearsal spaces, two theatre halls, and a café/restaurant. Nowhere else do so many theatre groups work together in one place. In the site’s most industrial studio you’ll find Touki Delphine, an Amsterdam-based collective of musicians, performers, and visual artists. With their monumental light and sound installations made from recycled materials, they create poetic encounters between humans and machines.
